NEW PRODUCT
why daisycuff?
Blood pressure cuffs have long been considered potential carriers of germs with Velcro closures and recessed areas giving dirt and microbes places to accumulate.
- Materials Matter
- No Velcro
- Sustainable
- Adaptable
-
daisycuff is manufactured from innovative materials developed and independently inspected as suitable for everyday hospital use. The skin-friendly and disinfectant-resistant material enables fast and complete disinfection between uses.
-
daisycuff utilises a unique ridged plate and loop system for closure, enabling all functional surfaces to be disinfected. While it may look shorter, this is because excess material is not required to fold back on itself, saving on unnecessary fabric and surfaces that pose an infection risk.
-
Each daisycuff has been validated for 10,000 uses, creating a durable, reusable and sustainable alternative to single-use devices.
-
Available in sizes small (S) through to extra-large (XL), daisycuff comes in a variety of adaptors to fit most common blood pressure machines, as well as manual/hand-held manometers.
the dirty secrets of blood pressure cuffs
Years of studies have highlighted contamination rates of blood pressure cuffs, and their potential for infections.
Blood Pressure Cuff as a Potential Vector of Pathogenic Microorganisms
This study found that 45% of inner sides and 23% of outer sides of blood pressure cuffs had 100 or more CFUs per 25cm², with the highest rate coming from the inner side of cuffs kept in ICUs (83%) and nurses’ trolleys (77%). Potentially pathogenic organisms were isolated from 13% of the cuffs sampled, and in four patients with a dedicated cuff, strains on the cuff were genetically linked to the patient’s own.
Blood Pressure Cuffs: Friend or Foe?
This study found viable organisms were found on 100% of sampled units, with 58% of cuffs carried potential pathogens – including MRSA from 8%, and C. difficile from 33%.
Blood Pressure Cuffs as a Vector for Transmission of Multi-Resistant Organisms
A 2013 study found high colonisation rates for (inner/outer) surfaces of cuffs sampled in Operating Theatres (76%/86%), High Dependency Unit (96%/98%) and the Emergency Department (100%/100%). Of the total swabs, 2% revealed MRSA.
