Tristel Duo OPH
Tristel Duo OPH is an effective, fast and compliant high-level disinfectant for medical devices used in ophthalmology and optometry.
Description
Devices that touch the surface of the eye are required to undergo high-level disinfection, and it is the responsibility of practitioners to ensure they are achieving compliance. Eye care is often viewed as a low-risk area, and it is often mistakenly assumed that a low-level disinfectant will be suitable, resulting in inadequate device disinfection. This includes alcohol wipes and sodium hypochlorite soaking.
Duo OPH is a high-level disinfectant, effective against required organisms and those of concern at low-concentrations and short contact times. This enables quick reprocessing of medical devices at point of use, increasing patient throughput.
Efficacy
Tristel Duo OPH is a high-level disinfectant and is proven effective against a wide range of microorganisms, including:
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRE)
- Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE)
- Candida albicans
- Aspergillus brasiliensis
- Adenovirus (responsible for adenoviral epidemic keratoconjunctivitis)
- Herpes Simplex Virus type 1
Application
Use Tristel Duo OPH to high-level disinfect devices used in ophthalmology and optometry including:
- Diagnostic contact lenses
- Laser contact lenses
- Tonometer prisms
- Ophthalmic ultrasound probes, including A-scan and B-scan ultrasound probes
- Pachymeters

Traceability
Keep track of each Tristel Duo OPH disinfection procedure with Tristel 3T.
Tristel 3T includes a Portal for setup, data management and reporting purposes and an App on a smart device to record Tristel decontamination procedures.
The 3T App captures the user, Tristel product, medical device, and patient number via the scanning of barcodes, minimising human error. The 3T App is used during the decontamination procedure, saving valuable time.
Tristel 3T stores data on a secure Microsoft Azure Cloud. Unlike traditional paper-based methods which could be accessed by anyone, 3T data is password protected on the Portal.
Chemistry
Tristel Duo OPH utilises Tristel’s proprietary chlorine dioxide chemistry, a well-documented and highly effective biocide.
Tristel Duo OPH has two separate compartments that contain 125ml of Tristel Base Solution (citric acid) and 125ml of Tristel Activator Solution (sodium chlorite). Upon pressing the pump, the two solutions mix, and chlorine dioxide chemistry is generated.
Chlorine dioxide does not form hazardous by-products or halogenated compounds.
Due to the way chlorine dioxide breaks down and destroys microorganisms, resistance cannot develop over time. Find out more about the mode of action of chlorine dioxide here.
After-Sales Support
Product training is an essential part of guideline compliance and is crucial to the correct implementation of any disinfection protocol.
