An HPV effective high-level disinfectant that leaves no part of an ultrasound transducer untreated.

Some automated units can only disinfect the ultrasound probe and handle, however, studies have shown that this is insufficient as microorganisms are still present on the plug and cable after use. Tristel Duo ULT offers high-level disinfection for all parts of an ultrasound transducer including the probe, holder, plug and cable.

Research conducted by Meyers et al., (2020) demonstrates the product is effective against infectious HPV types 16 and 18, on a transvaginal ultrasound probe in 30 seconds.

It complies with guidelines for disinfection within ultrasound, such as BMUS, WFUMB and the Society for Maternal Fetal-Medicine.

The product does not require electricity or water, making it ideal for disinfection at point of use and in remote locations.

Description

Applications

Use to high-level disinfect endocavity and skin surface ultrasound transducers, including the probe, holder, plug and cable.

Chemistry

Tristel Duo ULT utilises Tristel’s proprietary chlorine dioxide chemistry, a well-documented and highly effective biocide.

It has two separate compartments that contain 125ml of Tristel Base Solution (citric acid) and 125ml of Tristel Activator Solution (sodium chlorite). Upon pressing the pump, the two solutions mix and chlorine dioxide chemistry is generated.

Chlorine dioxide does not form hazardous by-products or halogenated compounds.

Due to the way chlorine dioxide breaks down and destroys microorganisms, resistance cannot develop over time. Find out more about the mode of action of chlorine dioxide here.

Efficacy

A high-level disinfectant, it is proven to be effective against a wide range of microorganisms in 30 seconds, including:

  • Human papillomavirus (HPV)
  • SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)
  • Candida albicans
  • Gardnerella vaginalis
  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae
  • Adenovirus
  • Staphylococcus aureus
  • Streptococcus agalactiae
  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
  • Hepatitis B Virus
  • Herpes Simplex Virus type 1

What is Human papillomavirus HPV?

HPV is a group of non-enveloped DNA viruses. There are 14 HPV types which are considered high-risk and are responsible for approximately 99% of cervical cancer cases.

Research conducted by Meyers et al., (2020) demonstrates that the product is effective against infectious HPV types 16 and 18, on a transvaginal ultrasound probe in 30 seconds.

What is SARS-CoV-2?

SARS-CoV-2 is a severe acute respiratory syndrome virus and the strain of coronavirus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Coronaviruses are a group of airborne viruses that spread via respiratory droplets. These droplets can be directly transmitted to a new host or indirectly via contaminated surfaces.

Testing demonstrates that Tristel’s proprietary chlorine dioxide chemistry is effective against SARS-CoV-2 in 30 seconds.

Regulatory

The product has been independently tested and meets the requirements set out by European Norms including EN 14885. Sporicidal efficacy according to EN 17126:2018 is also demonstrated.

It passes local regulatory requirements for Israel, India, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Product Options

Available in packs of two, each bottle provides 310 aliquots of disinfectant foam which is equivalent to 155 high-level disinfection procedures.

To ensure the maximum amount of foam is applied to the medical device, pair with the low absorbing Duo Wipes.

It can fit inside a pocket or bag. Alternatively, to keep the bottle within reach, affix Duo DOK to the side of an ultrasound machine.
