Gardnerella vaginalis<\/em>\u00a0and Bacterial vaginosis (BV)<\/h5>\n

\u2022\u00a0\u00a0G. vaginalis<\/em>\u00a0can be common in the vaginal flora and is one of the causative agents of BV, a vaginal infection that can affect up to 70% of women of reproductive age7<\/sup>.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0G. vaginalis<\/em>\u00a0symptoms are usually asymptomatic unless BV occurs, where the most common symptom includes vaginal discharge with a \u201cfishy\u201d odour7<\/sup>.
\n\u2022\u00a0 Factors that may influence the development of BV include: frequent baths, douching, multiple sex partners and increased frequency of sexual intercourse7<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n

Mycoplasma genitalium<\/em><\/h5>\n

\u2022\u00a0 Infection can lead to complications such as urethra and cervix inflammation, endometritis, fallopian tube inflammation, tubal infertility and pre-term birth8<\/sup>.
\n\u2022\u00a0 Testing for\u00a0M. genitalium<\/em>\u00a0infection can be difficult and time consuming, due to its slow growing nature9<\/sup>. Isolation and culture is impractical when immediate treatment is needed9<\/sup>.
\n\u2022\u00a0 Infections are often asymptomatic. Symptomatic women can present with pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)8<\/sup>\u00a0which is also a symptom of Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea infections, therefore misdiagnosis can occur.<\/p>\n\n

Gonorrhoea (Neisseria gonorrhoeae<\/em>)<\/h5>\n

\u2022\u00a0 An estimated 87 million new cases of Gonorrhoea occur yearly1<\/sup>.
\n\u2022\u00a0 Is able to survive on surfaces for up to three days6<\/sup>.
\n\u2022\u00a0 Treatment failure with the last resort antibiotic against Gonorrhoea has occurred in at least 10 countries10<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n

Trichomonas vagInalis<\/em><\/h5>\n

\u2022\u00a0 This protozoan parasite causes Trichomoniasis which increases the risk of getting and spreading other STIs11<\/sup>.
\n\u2022\u00a0 About 70% of people infected do not have any signs or symptoms1<\/sup>1<\/sup>.
\n\u2022\u00a0 An estimated 156 million new cases of Trichomoniasis occur yearly1<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n

Syphilis (Treponema pallidum<\/em>)<\/h5>\n

\u2022\u00a0 Also called \u201cThe Great Pretender\u201d as the symptoms are similar to other diseases12<\/sup>, often leading to misdiagnosis.
\n\u2022\u00a0 An estimated 6.3 million new cases of Syphilis occur yearly1<\/sup>.
\n\u2022\u00a0 There are 473 cases of congenital Syphilis to every 100,000 live births13<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n
