It can survive for weeks on high\u2011touch surfaces, spread with ease, and cause sudden outbreaks of vomiting and diarrhoea. With a very low infectious dose and high environmental stability, Norovirus remains a serious microbial threat that requires strict hygiene and effective disinfection to control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-where-is-norovirus-found\">Where Is Norovirus Found?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Norovirus is widespread in healthcare environments due to its incredible environmental resilience. It can remain infectious on high-touch surfaces in healthcare settings such as bed rails, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, and medical equipment for up to\u00a0<strong>two weeks<\/strong>, and even longer in cool, dry conditions. This persistence makes routine cleaning insufficient unless effective disinfectants and protocols are used<sup>1<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-does-norovirus-cause\">What Does Norovirus Cause?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Norovirus causes acute viral gastroenteritis and results in hospitalisations and significant operational disruptions in healthcare facilities. It is sometimes called the \u201cvomiting bug\u201d or \u201cstomach flu\u201d. However, norovirus illness is not related to the flu. Symptoms, such as vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea, and cramps typically emerge 12-48 hours post-exposure and last 1-3 days in healthy individuals. Anyone can get infected with norovirus. least two weeks after symptoms subside\u00a0<sup>3, 4<\/sup>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-is-norovirus-transmitted\">How is Norovirus Transmitted?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Norovirus easily spreads by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Person-to-person contact<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Direct contact with infected individuals, often in healthcare settings where hygiene lapses are possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Eating food or drinking liquids<\/strong>\u00a0contaminated with Norovirus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Contact with contaminated objects or<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>surfaces<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 In-direct transmission via surfaces contaminated with Norovirus particles and putting your unwashed fingers in your mouth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-can-you-defend-against-norovirus\">How Can You Defend Against Norovirus?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Proper disinfection is critical in preventing Norovirus transmission in healthcare settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most effective disinfectants should:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eliminate\u00a0<strong>bacterial spores, vegetative bacteria, mycobacteria, yeast, fungal spores, and viruses<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A disinfectant suitable for use against Norovirus should comply with&nbsp;<strong>EN 14476<\/strong>, demonstrating proven virucidal activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other steps should also be taken to protect yourself and others:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wash your hands well and often.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cook shellfish thoroughly and wash fruits and vegetables.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Routine cleaning and disinfection of surfaces, targeting high-touch exposed surfaces.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wash laundry in hot water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stay home when sick for 2 days (48 hours) after symptoms stop.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"tristel-products gutenberg
